Overview

One month at a time: what it cost, what it was made of, and the transactions behind any part of it. A toggle rescopes the same layout to a whole year.

The filter row#

These change which rows exist for everything below.

Whatever is active is echoed in the scope line just under the tabs — PLN · transfers excluded · 2 of 5 accounts — so a filtered reading never looks like an unfiltered one.

The ribbon#

Twelve bars, one per month, scaled to what each cost. Click to select; ← → step a month (a year in Year scope). At the end of the row: the Month | Year toggle, and Export, which writes the period's transactions as a CSV.

The summary#

• The month, its date range, transaction count and how many accounts are involved.
• A large figure — what the period cost under the current flow — and the change against last month.
• PARTIAL MONTH while the month is still running.
• One stacked bar, largest first. Colour follows rank, so lightness reads as size. Gold is reserved for uncategorized and never given to a real category.
• The legend, each row carrying its amount and share, in the bar's order.
• Three tiles: Income, Kept (income minus what went out), Daily average (over days elapsed, not 31).
• If anything is uncategorized: how much, and Categorize them →.

Drilling in#

Click a legend row or a bar segment. The transactions open between the summary and the panels, with a band showing the count, share and total. Click again to collapse, or Open in Transactions to carry the slice over to Transactions.

Under Main categories, a legend row stands for a whole subtree, and the drill shows the whole subtree.

The two month panels#

What moved — this month against what came before, as a diverging bar. A toggle picks the baseline:

• 3-month avg answers is this month unusual.
• Last month answers what changed. A quarterly payment is invisible against a mean and obvious against last month.

Near the start of a file the caption says how many months the mean actually covers.

Biggest single expenses — the largest individual outgoings, expense rows only. Uncategorized rows carry a gold chip, and where a never-match term blocked a rule, the chip names it.

Year scope#

Same header, same bar, same legend, same drill — cut by year instead of month. What changes:

• a PARTIAL YEAR tag and a band naming the months actually imported, holes included;
• Monthly average instead of daily;
• the comparison is against the same span of last year, not a full one;
• the panels swap for a category heatmap (12 months across, same colours as the bar) and a month-by-month income / expense / net table that clicks back down to a single month.

When it is empty#

Three different kinds of nothing, each with its own message: nothing imported at all, nothing in this month, or nothing matching the current filter — which names the filter responsible.
